I was bored at work (June 5th.) I looked to see if there was anyone from my area on line and there was Paul -- the only one from my area. I looked up his profile and there he was in a kilt. (See picture below) I figured anyone who was willing to post a picture of himself in a kilt has to be worth communicating with. And so the instant messaging began.
The strictly online communication didn't last long. I invited him to our singles group and on June 14th he showed up. I heard this voice behind me saying "I'm looking for Kashka?" It was Paul asking my roommate. And I turned around to meet the man of my dreams.
We communicated more via the net and phone calls, and he began regularly attend my singles group. He asked me to the Hollywood Bowl to see Charlotte Church. The concert was almost month away. I agreed to go but was bummed that our first date was so far away. He must have figured that out and asked me out for dinner on July 1.
OUR FIRST DATE.....
I was impressed by his old-fashioned manners. He always opens doors and makes sure I am comfortable. (Even now, if I am driving, when we stop I have to wait for him to come around and open my door, how cute is that!) Even more impressive to me, was the fact that he began the date by leading us in prayer.
We went to Wood Ranch BBQ in Moorpark. I immediately impressed him because I ordered a huge piece of red meat. (As a hunter, a livestock hobbyist, and a nutrition-savvy chemist, he definitely does NOT believe in vegetarianism... unlike most California girls!) And it was a very very nice dinner!
After dinner, we went for a drive to Malibu about 40 mins away and talked non-stop the whole time. We both agreed that we were getting too old to put off the important questions, so we covered all the subjects you aren't supposed to talk about on a first date -- family, life-style, kids, past relationships, likes and dislikes, politics, ranching, the outdoors, and sex (we both believe in obeying God by waiting til marriage.) And
we agreed on all of these things. Amazing!!
OUR SECOND AND THIRD DATE..
I happened to have a day off work so I met him for lunch in North Hollywood. We went to a Texas-style rib joint and I once again impressed him with my carnivorous appetite. As I was driving home he called and asked if I wanted to have dinner with him and his mom. I gulped and said yes. We had a lovely dinner at a burger place, Red Robin near his house.
His mother and I got along marvelously! She is a wonderful person.
TWO WEEKS INTO THE RELATIONSHIP...
Ken, Liz and the Kids happened to be coming out here for vacation. Paul survived dinner with them, Myke & Pam and Pops & Suz. The men talked about hunting over dinner. Then, the next day we all went to a baseball game including Lucy. Our families' first meeting was over Dodger dogs.
And so continues the story..........more to come later.....
